Affordable lunches, card games, social events, and support programs keep local seniors active and connected
Shelby, Montana, 11 February 2026 – In the heart of Shelby at 739 Benton Avenue, the Shelby Senior Center continues to be a welcoming space where good food and good company come together. Open Monday through Friday, the center offers affordable noon lunches to the public, along with a full calendar of activities designed to keep seniors active, social, and engaged.
Lunch is served at noon each weekday. The suggested meal price is $6 for those age 60 and over and $7 for those under 60. Guests can also purchase meal tickets in advance at a discounted rate of $60 or $70 for 10 meals, depending on age. Reservations or cancellations are requested by 9:30 a.m. to help the kitchen plan accordingly. Home-delivered meals are available for qualifying seniors, providing an important community nutrition service for those unable to attend in person.
This week’s menu features comforting favorites, including turkey à la king, sloppy joes, cabbage roll casserole, cream of broccoli soup with sandwiches, and chicken strips. Meals may change, but the focus remains the same: home-style cooking in a friendly setting. The center will be closed Monday, Feb. 16, in observance of Presidents’ Day.
Beyond meals, the Shelby Senior Center is a hub for senior activities and community engagement. Card games such as Pitch and Pinochle are held regularly throughout the month, along with Bingo, trivia, and a popular potluck lunch with cards. The next Bingo session is scheduled for Feb. 17 at 1 p.m., and the center is currently seeking a volunteer to help on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
Creative and social opportunities are also available. The Quilt Guild meets on Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m., while Arts and Crafts sessions are set for Feb. 14 and 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A Birthday and Anniversary Meal celebration will take place on Feb. 20 at noon, offering members a chance to celebrate special milestones together.
For those who enjoy a relaxed start to the day, the coffee social runs Monday through Friday from 8 to 9:30 a.m., except holidays. The center itself is open from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays, welcoming anyone who wants to read, play cribbage, work on puzzles, or simply spend time with friends.
In addition to social programs, the center supports seniors through initiatives such as the Respite Daybreak Program and the Commodities Food Program for residents over 60. These services help strengthen senior wellness and provide added support for those in need.
The facility is also available for meetings and community functions, reinforcing its role as a vital community resource in Shelby.
With affordable senior meals, engaging activities, and a strong spirit of connection, the Shelby Senior Center continues to serve as a cornerstone for healthy aging and social well-being in the community.
